ShaunSocial 1.5.5 — Release Notes

We are excited to announce the release of ShaunSocial 1.5.5, a major update focused on improving communication, payments, privacy, administration, PWA support, and overall platform stability.

This release introduces several new features and improvements while addressing a wide range of reported issues.

✨ New Features

Group Text Chat

Added support for group text chat, allowing multiple members to communicate together in the same conversation.

Edit Messages

Members can now edit previously sent messages, making it easier to correct mistakes or update message content.

Markdown Support for Posts

ShaunSocial now supports Markdown formatting when sharing posts, allowing members to create better-formatted content.

Mention Privacy Control

Added a new profile privacy option that allows members to block other members from mentioning them in posts.

Terms of Service Acceptance at Checkout

Paid checkout now requires members to review and accept the Terms of Service before completing a payment.

During checkout:

  • Members must check the Terms of Service acceptance checkbox.
  • The Terms of Service text is a clickable link.
  • Members can open and review the complete Terms of Service before completing their purchase.
  • Administrators can configure a custom Terms of Service URL.
  • If no custom URL is configured, ShaunSocial automatically uses the platform’s default Terms of Service page.

Membership Comparison — Free Package Support

Added an option for administrators to include free membership packages on the Membership Comparison page.

Account Protection for Demo Accounts

Added new AdminCP options to help administrators protect demo accounts.

Administrators can now:

  • Lock an account
  • Delete an account
  • Deactivate an account

This is particularly useful for protecting demo accounts from being deleted, deactivated, or having their password changed by users.

Bulk Email Campaigns

Added a new Bulk Mail feature that allows administrators to create and manage multiple email campaigns from AdminCP.

Each campaign can have its own targeting criteria, including:

  • User Role
  • Gender
  • Location

Administrators can also view the recipient list for each campaign when viewing campaign details.

💬 Chat Improvements

Improved Chat Push Notifications

Improved chat push notification behavior to provide more reliable notifications when members receive new messages.

Web Notification Sounds

Added notification sounds for chat messages on the web, making new incoming messages easier to notice.

Offline Chat Fix

Fixed an issue where real-time chat did not work correctly with offline mode.

💳 EWallet & Payment Improvements

EWallet Transaction Status

EWallet transactions now support additional payment statuses:

  • Processing — Payment is currently pending.
  • Cancelled — Payment was not completed.

This provides clearer transaction tracking for members and administrators.

PayPal Payment Protection

Fixed an issue where a PayPal payment could fail or remain incomplete while the corresponding funds were incorrectly added to the member’s EWallet.

The payment and EWallet balance are now handled correctly based on the payment status.

Social Login + EWallet Payment

Fixed an issue affecting members who registered using social login providers such as Facebook.

Previously, these members could be asked to enter a password when making an EWallet payment even though they did not have a traditional ShaunSocial password.

A new password recovery option has been added so members can set/recover their password and complete the payment process.

📱 PWA Improvements

PWA Setup Simplification

Improved PWA configuration so administrators can enable PWA without being required to configure Firebase first.

🛒 Marketplace Improvements

Several Marketplace improvements have been added:

Import Categories via CSV

Administrators can now import Marketplace categories using CSV files.

Currency Symbol Position

Added an option to choose whether the Marketplace currency symbol appears:

  • Before the price
  • After the price

Marketplace Listing Title

The Marketplace listing title now has its own separate label, instead of sharing the generic “Name” field label used in other areas such as registration.

This allows administrators to customize the Marketplace listing title without changing unrelated “Name” labels throughout the platform.

📢 Ads Plugin Improvement

Multi-Country Advertising

Ads can now be configured to target multiple countries instead of being restricted to a single country.

🔐 Privacy & Administration

Account Management

Added AdminCP controls to lock, delete, and deactivate member accounts.

This provides administrators with better protection for demo accounts and other accounts that need to be protected from changes.

🌍 Country Management Improvements

Country Creation Fix

Fixed an issue where administrators could not create countries from the backend.

Country CSV Import Fix

Fixed an issue where importing countries via CSV would only save the first country while the remaining countries were not imported correctly.

📅 Events Improvements

Event Creation Fix

Fixed an issue where pressing Enter after entering the Event Name could incorrectly navigate back to the previous page.

Disabled Events Addon

Fixed an issue where disabling the Events addon from the backend did not properly remove existing event-related content from the Home Feed.

Event-related feed content is now handled correctly when the Events addon is disabled.

⭐ Reviews Improvements

Fixed an issue where creating a review for a Page or Marketplace Listing would automatically create a feed post without correctly attaching the Page or Listing name to the feed content.

🖼️ Comment Photo Improvements

Improved the display size of photos in comments.

Comment photos are now displayed larger for a more user-friendly experience.

🛠️ System & Performance Fixes

Clear Cache Error

Fixed an issue where clicking Clear Cache in AdminCP could result in:

  • HTTP 500 error
  • Approximately 2 minutes of downtime

The cache-clearing process has been improved to prevent this issue.

🎞️ Tenor API Shutdown

Fixed the issue caused by the Tenor API shutdown by Google on June 30, 2026.

ShaunSocial no longer depends on the unavailable Tenor API functionality.

  • Mobile apps are not fully compatible with version 1.5.5 yet but it will work but the new features from 1.5.5 will not show on apps.
